The Penguin guide to Jazz Recordings by Richard Cook and Brian Morton

The Penguin guide to Jazz Recordings by Richard Cook and Brian Morton

This is a comprehensive guide to jazz, both CD & Vinyl. It's a great resource when looking for rarities and it also has an in depth review for each recording. I use this book for buying trips and pre purchase reviews, to help judge the quality of the recordings. This book, unlike many, will give you a very good review of the actual recording quality of the tracks, which can make a huge difference to your enjoyment of jazz. From my personal view, I like the 'live' quality of vinyl, but also enjoy jazz that is recorded in a studio environment.
